Andy Bomboy, manager of network technology at Hershey Entertainment &
Resorts Co.
, recently spoke with contributor Johanna Ambrosio about his
company's business continuity tools and technologies. The company -- perhaps
best known for its Hershey Park theme park, as well as various hotels and
sports venues -- is in the midst of a project to back up its point-of-sale
and other critical real-time customer-related data.

Andy talks about this project, lessons learned about replication and
disaster recovery in general and some of the benefits of having the
corporate hot site in the same building as the main data center. One of the
most important things Hershey Entertainment needed to do, he says, was "take
a step back" and look at its overall network infrastructure. Because of the
amount of data being sent over the wires, the company needed to pump up its
bandwidth.
