Jobs: The iPhone is Apple's netbook

Apple Inc. has no imminent plans to compete in the growing market for "netbooks," the small, inexpensive laptops that accounted for 5% of all U.S. notebook sales last quarter, CEO Steve Jobs said Tuesday. But the company already participates in the category, Jobs argued, citing Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch as devices that have much of the same functionality as the ultra-light, low-cost notebooks.

WunderRadio for iPhone

The original iPhone and iPod touch were terrific devices for playing music you'd placed on them. With the advent of the App Store, they're now capable of playing music streamed from such online music services as Pandora, Last.fm, and AOL. But what about terrestrial radio? "Funnest" is an awfully strong word for a couple of iPods

Pretty iPod nanos, spiffy iPod Touches -- so why doesn't it perk me up? At least there are Genius Playlists to console me -- if only I could download the update.

Troubleshooting iPhone and iPod touch issues

Unlike OS X, the iPhone is a very closed environment from a user's perspective. When everything works--as it did for basically everyone using the first-generation iPhone with iPhone firmware version 1.x--that's good news. As a user, you don't really need to see the details when things are working well. Just plug in the iPhone, let it sync, and you're good to go. But what about when things aren't working well? As an example, say with iPhone firmware 2.0?

On a typical day, weather.com, the Web site for The Weather Channel in Atlanta, serves up between 15 million and 20 million page views. But in September 2004, when back-to-back hurricanes ransacked Florida, the peak traffic on one day more than tripled: over 70 million page views by more than 7 million unique visitors.
